Apples for adults and Blackberry for teenagers

As we’re really quite busy (for a change!) polishing some finished websites for the usual Friday deadlines, this is just a quick post, but it’s incredibly relevant to our mobile web design page.

Very interesting figures released from Ofcom show some crucial device-specific marketing trends unfolding. A while back we reported that by 2014, more people would access online content via their phone than PC and this now looks more realistic than ever.

The headlines of the Ofcom report are:

  • 1/3 of all adults now use a smartphone

  • Adults split 58% male to 42% female

  • Teenagers split 58% female to 42% male

  • #1 activity is (surprise) Facebook

  • Apple was the #1 brand for adults

  • Blackberry was the #1 brand for teenagers

All very useful information for anyone targeting consumers with a social/mobile campaign – if you are targeting teens, you definitely need to cater for Blackberry users, whereas Apple devices offer much better web compatibility anyway.
